Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project (BRLP)

This will be achieved by making investments in technical assistance, service provision and setting up of market support mechanisms. The objective would be accomplished by:

  • Improving rural livelihoods and enhancing social and economic empowerment of the rural poor.
  • Developing organizations of the rural poor and producers to enable them to access and better negotiate services, credit and assets from public and private sector agencies and financial institutions.
  • nvesting in capacity building of public and private service providers.
  • Playing a catalytic role in promoting development of microfinance and agribusiness sectors.

The state of Bihar has taken some proactive steps in this direction and has included People with Disabilities as a major vulnerable group that needs to be included in BRLP to improve rural livelihood options and help them break this vicious circle of poverty and disability.

3 blocks namely Sakra block of Muzaffarpur, Dobhi block from Gaya and Rajnagar block of Madhubani district are selected for piloting the Inclusion of PwDs strategy. Orientation & sensitization workshop for selected State officials of BRLPS completed. Identification of PwDs at household level completed through SHGs rapid survey method. Block Planning Workshop conducted for Sakra and Rajnagar blocks. Exposure visit of BRLP team is being organized to SERP, Andhra Pradesh. The purpose of the visit to SERP is to foster both learning between government counterparts and project level exchange between the operational teams.
