Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM)

as part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission. OLM, an independent society under the Department of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Government of Odisha, is implementing the project in 10 coastal districts of Odisha state.

Mobilization of poor to form their ‘own institutions’ is the primary objective of the project; for which strong institutions of the poor in the form of SHGs are constituted. Such village level and cluster level federations provide a space and voice to the marginalized sections of the society. They are the mediators to provide an accessibility of resources to the poor, in order to reduce their dependence on external agencies. These institutions act as an instrument of knowledge and technology dissemination, and hubs of production, collectivization and commerce.

The project focus is on inclusion of persons with disability so as to provide them equal opportunity in the society, protect their rights and ensure their full participation in development activities in the society. The project envisages creating enabling environment so that the persons with disability can live better life with dignity as envisioned by Dr. Amartya Sen.

The inclusion work for OLM started as per conceived plan. Orientation & sensitization workshop for Ersama block team of OLM completed. Workshop on Block Planning for livelihoods of PwDs has been conducted Chilika and Erasama blocks. Detailed survey of the identified PwDs is completed and currently the team is engaged in digitizing the disability data.
